GETTING STARTED… THE DETOX

We’ve heard a lot about detox! That famous word! But… what does it mean?
Simply put, a detox is a process in which a person makes lifestyle changes to clear their body of toxins. These lifestyle changes typically involve abstaining from certain harmful foods we eat without noticing.
Detoxification is also about resting, cleansing and nourishing the body from the inside out.
If we are about to start a new lifestyle we have to prepare our bodies for the changes ahead. Our body will be more receptive and will respond better to new healthy habits if we clean it first.
… It is like in nature… if we are going to plant flowers or fruits, we should clean the soil before to see better blooming or harvest.
So…how to start the detox?:
- Stay away from added sugar. If you want something sweet eat fruits or add natural sweeteners such as real stevia (important to read labels)
- Avoid refined flours. Choose your carbs from natural sources such as: sweet potato, plantain, potatoes, oats, quinoa.
- Say no to processed foods. Forget about frozen food, cans, long term expiration dates. Go fresh!
- Run from saturated fats. Fall in love with healthy fats like avocado, nuts, olive oil, coconut oil, ghee
As you can tell, detox is not only about drinking green/pink/yellow juices for 5 days in a row!

Other ways to help our body to detoxify is to reduce stress (to avoid messing with our hormones) and to exercise! Sweating will eliminate toxins in a blink.
