Omega-3 is very often talked about as to whether it truly has benefits

It has been my experience as a physician and beauty and health expert as well as the many scientific studies have shown the many benefits.

Omega-3 has many powerful health benefits for our body, brain, joints, and skin.

In many studies and literature, it has been shown to have as much as 17 health benefits which have been supported by science. 

Let’s start by mentioning a few of those 17 benefits: 

1. Did you know that Omega-3s help with Depression and Anxiety which is very common in some form or another in all age groups
Some studies have shown that people with depression or anxiety after starting omega-3 supplements have seen improvement in symptoms.

2. There are three types of omega-3 fatty acids: ALA, EPA and DHA. Of the three, EPA appears to be the most effective
One study even found EPA as effective against depression as a common antidepressant drug, always check with your doctor before taking or stopping any medications or supplements to make sure no interactions, etc.

3. DHA, another type of omega-3, a structural component of the retina of your eye, we know many supplements and nutriendo are vital for eye health such as bilberry, luteal and DHA which are available thru food sources as well as proper supplements.

Omega-3s are also necessary during pregnancy for proper brain development in infant.

4. Omega-3 has been noted to help various complications associated with Metabolic syndrome. As we all know Inflammation is not a good thing. When we are inflamed whether as a result of our nutrition, lack of exercise, stress, lack of sleep or whatever may be the cause, all are triggers for disease such as heart disease, Alzheimers, dementia, arthritis, autoimmune, and cancers.

Other great benefits of Omega-3 include our skin which is the largest organ we have. Beauty and health always start at the cellular level which is why I emphasize working on our internal health for that external glow, it takes time and commitment to constantly improve and maintain our health,, well-being and beauty! 

Lets look at how Omega-3 helps with skin and sleep too, which is equally important for overall health.

Omega-3 fatty acids — especially DHA — may improve the length and quality of your sleep.

“DHA is a structural component of your skin. It is responsible for the health of cell membranes, which make up a large part of your skin.” Thereby maintaining smooth, supple, hydrated skin.

Did you know that we need these fatty acids to balance our skin’s oil production? We can also decrease hyper keratinization of hair follicles, sometimes look like small red bumps on upper arms, also to help slow down premature aging of your skin.

Omega-3 can also slow down the breakdown of collagen which we all lose gradually over time.

My approach is an all around encompassing regimen for a healthy inside and out. Whether you opt to get your nutrients from whole natural food sources or quality supplements or a combination, we all need to diligently make sure we are not lacking in essential nutrients.

I like to assess each individual’s nutrition profile, metabolic profile, lifestyle, skincare, and basic labs in order to customize what’s needed as the treatment plan.
